This beautiful Geisha Tattoo was done by Mukesh Waghela at Moksha Tattoo Studio Goa India.
The term “geisha” is made of two Japanese words, (gei) meaning “art” and (sha) meaning ” the person who does”. People around the world believe that Geisha are prostitutes however this is false. Geisha in literal English translation means “artist”.
Geisha’s are entertainers and they are trained vigorously in music, dancing and art.
Girls still training to become geisha are called Maiko.
When they become full-fledged Geisha’s they are called Geiko. Being called geisha is considered to be an honour to the girls.
You can tell a Geisha and a Maiko apart by their hairstyle.
In the old times geisha had black teeth. This custom was called ohaguro. It was not only for geisha, but for women in general. The meaning of it changes through the era, but it was for beauty.
Nowadays, maiko will blacken their teeth when they reach the sakkou stage or else when they graduate from being a maiko.
Inevitably, due to the demanding lifestyle of the Geisha and the pressures of the modern world, their numbers are declining.
This beautiful Geisha Tattoo was done in two sessions of 6 hours each taking 12 hours’ time to get a complete finish.
The client travelled to Goa from Bangalore specially for the tattoo.
